My boy's heifer finally had her calf. A 98 lb bull calf unassisted. The heifer is a red angus/ gelbvieh balancer. She didn't take the ai so the calf is from our Hereford bull.
He hopes to make a show steer out of him (says that he wants to maximize his $) :cboy:

Thanks all. It's cool to see how excited he is about his first calf, and to discuss with him managing it and ways that he can market it in the future.
I dodged a bullet too. That was by far the heaviest calf from a heifer that we've had for the last several years, and you can tell from the pic it has a pretty square head. I knew that she looked close but hadn't had time to check all day..this could have easily been a whole different type of learning experience for him.
