A bit ago the dogs started barking like someone was here, so I went to the door, here is this lil old lady with a bad dye job for red hair, she said she is from the MO Ag stat service, wanting me to sit down with her and fill out this thick survey about my farm, how much I made, etc.. I asked her if it was mandatory and she said no, but if I did not sit with her and fill it out, she wouldn't get paid, and then they would just mail the other type the Census to me in hte mail. I told her that I have never heard of someone coming to the farm like this. I have heard of the Census, and would fill it out, if it was mandatory, but as far as sitting down and telling a total stranger my personal info, not gonna happen.

The whole thing was very odd and unusual. She left me her card, but it just seems bizarre that she goes driving around hoping that farmers are up and about, not busy to answer some questions on a survery. Personally I think the whole thing is stupid. How do they think farmers are doing? High fertilizer, etc... is it really anybody's business but our own how much we make, and pay for farm items. She went on about how the politicians use this info for farm bills that go thru the legislative, etc... give me a break, don't even get me started. Our local FSA office is a joke!

You never know. It may have been some sort of scam. You already did your ag census, right? Everything anyone would want to know should be in there. I wouldn't tell her anything, either, til I knew who had sent her.

i agree to those people dont drive round here stopping at farms.asking the farmer to fill out survey papers.i dont blame you for not filling them out.

i had a similar instance when someone called me on the phone claiming a similar thing.

Had an older lady stop by my office, unannounced & unscheduled, a month or so ago asking me to complete the same type of survey. I ushered her out the door and told her I'd look it over and let her know if I decided to voluntarily complete it. Now, I've kept pretty darn good records of my little operation for the last 13 or 14 years, but the detail they ask for in the survey is almost mind boggling. I'm confident that very few people would be able to fully complete the survey, correctly, and it would take a good bit of time to do so if the historical records were available and in good shape. Since it was a voluntary survey and in my view a fairly egregious invasion of my privacy I later told her thanks but no thanks. :D Kind of felt bad for her because I also understood that she wouldn't get paid unless she could submit completed surveys to the higher ups, and she looked like she could really use the money.

Good job GMN. NEVER NEVER give any info to a complete stranger.
I have a friend who does county survey's, but she calls the person to set an appointment first. These are through the FSA office.

Got a strange call yesterday asking me about our wheat crop and how many acres we plant each year in spring wheat. None. She hung up real fast. :?
