Finally weakened and ordered a ton ($420 a ton btw). This is what they sent. This is not what I see you boys posting pics of.

Looks small to me
Here it's cottonseed cake
I've seen others post cubes that are of various ingredients and not cotton seed
Does it have a label ?

Edit
Sounds really high priced too

It's just a bunch of crap pressed in to a large pellet.

The short story:
My mother in law has been poorly for about a month. My wife has been staying with her. Between work, and keeping things up on the farm, and being Mr. Mom--------I had to turn my fall Calvers , spring calvers, and bred heifers all in together. It just made feeding hay so much simpler. The spring herd/some bred heifers could calve as early as the 22nd. I need to get several sorted off. Everything has free run of the place. I thought if these things are really like crack then I'd give em a try. I put a 50 pound bag out in close proximity to the herd. A few came and ate. It doesn't draw them as well as my stocker mix. You just don't do good pouring that stuff on the ground. Everything can calve were its at, that's just not my normal way, and a monumental task to check everyday once the deed starts going down.

I've never seen feed that size. All the range cubes I've ever seen are considerably larger than those; probably about 1-1/2" diameter. And every other kind of pellets I've seen have been smaller than those you're holding. Range cubes are designed to be fed on the ground, and I believe you'd have more waste with those than if they were larger.

I asked the lady 3 times,"was she sure she was ordering me range cubes?" It finally made her mad, so I quit asking questions. It's pretty obvious that its not.

Depends on the manufacturer. Some make them small in diameter, some make them larger. When we partnered in an alfalfa business we made ours out of straight alfalfa and the were anywhere from an inch to 5 inches long and 2 inches square.

That's the typical range cube here. Smaller and they call it creep. Your cows are not used to it, so give it time. Mine will mug you for it.

That's exactly what we call range cubes here. They'll get use to eating them. Maybe mix some of your feed in with the cubes to get all the heifers eating them.

I bought some last year that were short like that and didn't like them. The cattle seemed to have a harder time getting them off the ground and stomped a lot more than usual. I started feeding it in a trough to cut down on waste.
If your cows are use to eating out of a trough feed yhem in a trough for the first few times to let them figure out what your doing. After that try it on the ground. After they figure it out they'll meet you at the gate.

what is the percentage of the protein content in those?

I tried them again this afternoon. Some of my cows always come to a bucket. They came, so I poured about 5 piles out here and there. They are a few, then went back to the hay rings. Like they didn't taste good.

That is a pretty darn small cube, unless you are the Jolly Green giant and have extremely huge fingers :o  :P Bigger than calf creep, but smaller than normal cake.

IMO, that size cube looks more like would be marketed to supplement sheep. Also looks like a poorly formed cube at that. Looks like a lot of the cubes are not as long as they are big around :???:

Is there a lot of fines it it :?: Cake made with better quality ingredients doesn't have much f fines in it. Or else this stuff has been handled a million times before it got to you. Like others, I'm also curious about the nutritional analysis of this particular product.

Yea we don't even want to go to what's really in that chit.... Can the hay analysis labs check cubes?
Take some and break em down in some water and post a picture op

They come in different sizes 3/8 to 3/4 diameter. I think the bigger the better. Those look awful short. There generally 2 to 3 inches long if They haven't been handled to rough.

That's quite high priced to. I'm useing a cube that's made from whole cottonseed and cane molasses for less. In bags.

I knew I wasn't getting a real cube, when I ordered it. Actually I strongly suspicioned I wasn't. TSC told me they could order me some today. I'm a little gun shy now though.

What brand is that? Where are you getting those cubes?
His cubes look thin to me. I think they are short /broken from being handled.

Made by rowena mills king. You can get em at browns in lampasas for 400 a ton. Good big cubes. Best I've seen . Make sure you ask him for the big cottonseed cubes specifically. I'll shoot you a pic tomorrow.
Their something like 6.5 percent fat
