I wasn't going to go to the sale yesterday for 2 reasons. The first is they were having one of their first feeder special sales with 2,000+ feeder calves. The second was some medical stuff from Tuesday. But they advertised over 100 bred cows and I was feeling pretty good so I went. I knew they would sell the feeders first so I went late. Timed it to get there after 5:00. When I got there the first ring load sold was 640 lb steers that sold for $4.20. Prices sure haven't dropped. Saw some light calves top $5.00. When they finally got to the bred cows I pretty much sat on my hands. The ones I came to see were broken mouth black cows bred to black bulls for February calves. They were in their work clothes weighing 1,250. Sold in groups of 20 cows they brought $2500. Too rich for my blood. They started them at $2200 which was what I was looking to pay. Most of the rest of the bred cows were big heavy cows weighing 1,400-1,600 lbs. Not the kind that work for me even if they were cheap enough which they weren't.
