THE SNEEZE
They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into the already crowded auditorium With rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.
Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears.
This class would not pray during the commencements----not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.
The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.
The speeches were nice, but they were routine.....until the final speech received a standing ovation.
A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened. All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!
The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, ' GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you!' And he walked off stage...
The audience exploded into applause. The graduating class found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval.
Isn't this a wonderful story?
This is a true story; it happened at the University of Maryland. It's inspiring.

I love this!! As a teacher, I have to be careful when talking about God at school, but as I sit in my office typing this I see a copy of "The Sneeze" on my bulletin board and it's been there for a while now. I also have 2 Bibles on regular and one is called "The Way For Cowboys" (distributed by Cowboys for Christ). I also have several prayers in my office as well. I have been blessed in that I have had a student each year that makes several FFA trips with me and both of these young men always ask if they can bless our meals. God is great!! Even when He's not welcomed somewhere, He still finds a way to enter!!!!!

Yes, I would like to know where that is as well. My Bible must be defective. I cant remember that particular passage.

Glad you responded Tab/s, b/c I was just as curious. Though I am no Bible scholar, I do understand God and His plan for the people of the world. I know that God will judge those who do not repent and will bless those that believe in Him.

As for the Scripture reference that you quoted/paraphrased, you must realize that Proberbs, according to 1:1 are the words of Solomon and as you read, you will see that he speaks to his son David. Typically when words are of God, the pronouns and other words referring to God are capitalized. You will see in verse 8 father is not, in verse 23 my is not, in verse 24, again my is not, in verse 25, again, my is not, in verse 28, and probably the best indication that these words are not God's, but Solomon's is verse 28, which reads "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me." Please don't misunderstand, I firmly believe these words were inspired of God and Solomon wrote them.

Another verse which is similar to Proverbs 1:28 is Jeremiah 33:3 which reads, "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Notice that Me is capitalized which is indicative of God, Himself, speaking." Hope this clears it up a little for y'all.

Try proverbs chapter 1 read the whole chapter. prov1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Pay special attention to verses 20 through 33.

One more thing if a person takes heed to and applys the instructions in chapter one I dont think they will fall short of the crown.

Well, I hate to point out the fact that you are definitely incorrect is the last sentence of your post, but the only way to get to Heaven is by following your ABCs. A-Admit that you are a sinner, B-Believe that Jesus is God's Son and that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead after three days, and C-Confess with your mouth and ask Jesus to come into your heart and make you a new creation.

I never said I believed the name it and claim it thing, but I certainly don't believe that by following chapter 1 of Proverbs that anyone will get to Heaven. You have to claim Jesus to get to Heaven, Period! Of course once you claim Jesus, if you truly have a relationship with Jesus you will want to follow to the best of your ability the words of the Bible, which include Proverbs chapter 1.

You must admit though, too, that God's not gonna be laughing about one's calamity!

Im sorry, I dont get that at all out of proverbs. Solomon in his introduction defines proverbs as needing "interpretation" and being the "dark sayings" of wise men (1:6).

Jesus and His disciples show the difficulty of understanding proverbs. Look at the following two verses showing the obscure nature of a proverb:

"These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father." (John 16:25)

"His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb." (John 16:29)

Observe that Jesus knew proverbs were not plain speech, and also observe that the disciples understood proverbs were not plain statements. They need careful analysis and interpretation for us to know the full and correct meaning and application.

Gosh, sorry I caused such a fuss. I just thought it was a pretty interesting story. By the way, I don't believe the Old Testament lays out a plan of salvation for Christians (including us Gentiles) until the sacrifice was actually made when Christ died on the cross. When the church came into existance the Holy Spirit instructed the same gospel and the same plan of salvation to each apostle as they taught. Look at at the similarities of each conversion such as Acts 2 (Jews on the day of Pentecost) and Acts 10 (conversion of Cornelius, first Gentile convert). The Bible is actually pretty clear but we often like to justify what we want to hear and do.

Hey Alice, the only thing that I found in her post that comes close to answering your question is in Proverbs 1:26, but as I pointed out to her it's not the words of God, it's the words of Solomon. I asked her to admit that, and she said she wouldn't. It's my prayer that Tab/s does know Jesus as her personal Savior (for real) and that it's not based on trying to get there, on Proverbs 1, or anything else except that fact that we are sinners, we need Jesus, He came and died for us, and we tell the world what we believe. I for one couldn't make it a day without Him. My walk with Jesus is constant, though I do faulter. I have a Christian husband, two sons who are Christians, and God is the number one priority in our lives. We don't even buy cattle without consulting God. I have a group of prayer sisters that are the best. God rocks!!!
