I have been keeping track of the Iditarod this week, along with my students. We drew the names of mushers at random and have been lucky enough to have several of the top runners. Have been watching video on the internet and keeping track of the stops and positions of the mushers. Man, what a sport! OUt there with 16 dogs and not a lot else for long stretches, night and day. Good stuff. Takes some real skill for both man and dog, (women race, too).

Anyway, I have been thinking. I think I will start my own race here, the Idonkeyrod. Yep, we're gonna tie donkeys to sleds and race from the county line to the nearest beer store. Any takers?

I'll be the flagman at the finish line. I'll bring a friend of mine and we can err.. ahh.. inventory the coldbeer while waiting on the finish.  Z

I am scouting other herds for contestants as we speak. Well, maybe not as we speak. Went to a retirement party last night and made a little too much merry. My head is large and painful. :(

I guess there might not be much of an inventory left after yall get done.

Lammie, what a GREAT idea...Idonkeyrod! If I were only closer, I'd be right there with ya'! Except I don't like beer. Does that disqualify me? Wait a second, maybe my donkeys like beer...I'm sure Rambo could be convinced, after all, he likes hotdogs with sauerkraut.

It's that high altitude you live at causes it. If you were down here closer to the coast it wouldn't bother you.Z

i guess they sell other things besides beer in the beer store.

Milliron, I have no idea about the elevation making me sick. Unfortunately, it was the tequila. And no, I did manage to stay dressed till I got home. Then we watched 15 minutes of TV and passed out. Honeymoon's over, I guess! :(

Just checked the standings and one of my favorite racers has 77 miles to go after a mandetory 8 hour rest. We'll be done tomorrow. Lance Mackey. His father and brother have also won. No one's near him.

There is a good movie out there about that race (think it is that race) were a young boy competes in it. Might be something for the you guys to watch in class. I will try to find its name.

Yea, we did Iron Will, Snowdogs, Eight Below, couple of others. It is a really fun unit to study for everyone. Even my most impaired kids really get into it.

Iron Will, that was the one I was thinking of, pretty good movie. Good to see you have the kids excited about learning!
