Our last bull out made it known he is still alive today. Feed crew gave him some pellets on the road where they found him and carried on to feed cows. He was nearly home when another vehicle made him turn back and go through another gate and wander off to another part of our range. Went with the snow machine until he got into some thick stuff about dark. If I hadn’t been off hauling hay we would have been done roundup.

We still have cows and calves out. 50 degrees and some light rain regularly has kept it green in the hills. One of these days the great white cowboy is going to show up and surprise everyone. B and crew plan to ride the area where my cows should be at today. Unheard of having to ride the hills the first of January. But the ones that I have seen come wandering by here all look to be in good shape. And the longer they stay out the less hay you have to feed.

Im assuming this is last years cows? They should have big calves by now and heavy bred again. Any chance you would sell calves and keep the cows again?

The 5 pairs arrived here an hour ago. They look great. They will all go to the sale on Jan 8. Of course the calves sell. The cows will get preg checked. Exactly what will happen with the cows is an it depends. Any opens sell. How far along they are bred and what their teeth look like will determine if any of them come back home. Also how much does someone else want to pay. #55 is with them. She is a know escape artist. I don't think I will bring her back home. We are well into the black for this year. All expenses have been accounted for and paid. So how ever much money these bring is 100% profit. At what point do you just take the money and walk?

Tried to get a picture of them. It is getting dark so they didn't turn out. And the last time they saw any people was May 10 when we branded the calves and haul them to the hills. So they weren't thrilled to have me taking their picture. The best one I got. That red cow weighs well over 1,300 lbs. So how big is that red tank standing beside her. Only one of the 5 calves weighing under 600. And 4 of the 5 are steers.

If these are 100% profit it could be good that they are selling after January 1st. Even if you buy them back it gives you a record of where you bought cows in January 2026.

I got the check for the 5 calves yesterday. Turns out there was 3 steers and 2 heifer (got it wrong looking in the dark). The steers averaged 725 lb and sold for $3.66. The heifers weighed 630 and sold for $3.25. A check for over$11,000 for 5 calves. There is a bred cow sale on Thursday. I will take the cows up there on Wednesday. The vet will be preg checking that day. I will decide on that day which to take back home and which ones to leave and sell.
