"You're NEVER going to get that thing in the house by yourself." She told me.
Kinda pi$$ed me off to because common sense dictates that the only safe and sane way for a little guy like me to move an eight hundred pound gun safe across the driveway, up the stairs, and into the bedroom is to call the gorillas on my contact list and ply them with alcohol. But NOOOO, she had to take that option off the table right off the bat. Instead it has sat in the yard for a week while I took my vitamins and conjured up ideas.
It's in and I did it BY MYSELF because anything less would have been like stopping to ask for directions with her right there in the truck.
I'm glad my first series of ideas worked because my last ditch effort was going to be to park the truck in front of the house and run my winch through the house and drag it in and she would have thought that was cheating.

All good ideas but it was a high lift jack, a couple blocks of wood, a furniture dolly, a hand truck, and a few bricks. The hand truck only served as a set of handles.

Sounds like a good way to find out how good your life insurance is. My safe weighs 500lbs and it was not too bad with two people and an appliance dolly. My brother inlaw got one that was 890 lbs and it was all that three of us wanted to get ahold of. Still not as bad as a full back piano, but close.

Okay, as someone who has been married for years ..... It is not easier to not evolve your wife, just do it as in plan A. Say, oh I'm sorry! Just as wives everywhere do ... NOT ALL WIVES BUT SOME, A OR LOT DO?

Alan, I can admit when I'm wrong. Especially if I'm the first person to see it. My wife shares that same trait with me and that's part of the glue that holds us together. BUT... I have testicles and a challenge is a challenge regardless of her thoughts about if I was being challenged or not. It's part of that me having testicles thing.

that woulda pi$$ed me off too. Not sure what mine weighs. Backed the truck up to the french doors and let it down with a hand truck. Slid it on the hand truck across wood floors. She was helping all the way.

Something like that happened a work recently. This piece of equipment was purposely shipped on a day I would be there, I was to devise a way of getting it moved in. I made plans for the route and thought it would have wheels which it did. But the guy unloaded with lift on the parking lot pavement, and not the concrete 6 inches above it. It was much bigger and much heavier than I anticipated. Right as I was sizing up the situation, thinking it was going to be a problem, that's when one of my female coworkers piped up that I wouldn't be able to get done. Dang her!

So like you, I started scheming. Had to get it done quickly, couldn't leave it outside and couldn't block the front door very long- which it had to come through. I did have an assistant, but not just any assistant. This assistant reminds me of Jack on that show Will and Grace. I think he uses a full 5 lb bag of sugar in his tank. He was quite helpful with tons of ideas just being blurted out as I was working on a solution, I think he might have suggested pixy dust at one point... I took that opportunity to suggest that he not get under or behind the heavy object as I leveraged onto the concrete. It might have cost me a disc, but the challenge to my manhood was averted. And when you think about it, I've only got one manhood, but a whole bunch of discs.

I see you suffer from the "little guy" complex like me, but hey I get the impossible done when someone, specially a woman, tells me I can't.

I suffer from "old Guy complex". Which means that I pretty much ignore women who say I can, can't, or should do something. Then I figure out how I am going to do something with the least amount of strain on myself. That includes up to the point of enlisting the assistance of young strong guys who work while I stand back and direct traffic. I have yet to stoop low enough to stand back and watch women accomplish the job but I might consider doing that if they are young and attractive enough.

One of the more effective "old guy" tricks when enlisting the help of young strong guys is the line"that's probably too heavy for you fellas" Works everytime.

Just my point Vic, I guess like you and Dave I have old guys complex. If I can enlist enough young muscle to move a heavy gun safe ....... I don't care what my wife has to say. With that said I'm watching very closely to make sure nothing gets broke or scratch. But it's easy to bait young muscle with beer and home cooked food. Sometimes with men and women you just do what you want in those situations.

I get called on a lot to help people move something heavy. Heaviest thing I ever assisted with was a pool table from the late 1800's. I guess the top was slate. Idk. It was several inches thick.
