I haven't posted in a while but I have a very good cup of coffee this morning and I'm in the mood.

The media around here and nationally are hanging Oregon out to dry, some local media are insisting coach Kelly quit. He!!, two years as Oregon's head coach he has only won the Pac 12 twice, went to the Rose Bowl and the next year to the national championship game (I know we lost them both but we went). Oregon has said nothing about any of this investigation to the media, with the exception of at the very beginning when the story first broke an Oregon spokesperson stated that all was done within the rules and it was cleared by the NCAA compliance department at Oregon.

In short, I hate the way the media is twisting the story and facts around to manufacture a story. Also to any Longhorn fans, I would like to thank the Longhorns for pointing the finger in the first place and getting this ball going..... Yes, yes, we came to Texas and took LaMicheal James and Darren Thomas, then the next year took Lache Seastrunk and Tra Carson. The Ducks love to shop in the Longhorn state. TB, I thought I should leave my wife's beloved Aggies out of this :D .

Just a good cup of Joe and a rant just to stir a pot.... Any takers?

Alan I haven't been paying much attentiion to this but heard the first of it last week...something about hiring a recruiting firm (which everyone does) and the guy turns out to be an idiot. Seems most if any wrong was done by him acting on his own. But I can understand the "Tea Sippers" down at Austin doing what they did....it's just their nature. Seems right now what they are best out if signing all the superstars and most turn into duds. (the ones that got away turned into real ballplayers).

I hate to say it, Alan, but I predict that Oregon will get slapped with some kind of penalty in the near future. Once the NCAA starts nosing around a major college football program they're gonna keep digging until they find something. It could be totally unrelated to why they came around in the first place but they always find something. It's their sole reason for existing. If nothing else, they'll lay the old "lack of institutional control" crap on you. It's their way of saying "we can't prove anything but we know you're guilty of SOMETHING, so we're gonna slap you around."
We've had a little experience with that one here at Illinois. There needs to be some oversight over these people so they can't just run roughshod over people without some sort of due process.

For your sake I hope I'm wrong.

The NCAA will nail a player for lending his image to a charity calender (Steve Alfore at Indiana long ago) but they rarely find the big violators. If they do find big violations, they sit on it until after the season is over. The NCAA is a money machine. They need to overhaul their rules.
A kid with a great body should be entitled to profit for his/her talents. Those talents are extremely perishable. Coaches, AD's, television, all make big money from these kids.
How about a super division for the Texas's, Oklahoma's, Alabama's, Ohio States etc. $50 million salary cap (probably a reduction). Recruit them openly, with money. That would take care of most current violations.

If they got any more money than they do now I don't know how they would spend it. You soon run out of new designs and body space for tattoos and body piercings and nothing else seems to matter. Oh well except maybe a Caddy Escalade and a house for Mama and her man.

Van, you are very right, something will come down from the NCAA. Mike Bellotti was interviewed a few days ago at an Oregon sports fund raiser ( golfing in eastern Oregon ), he has no ties these days to the Ducks. He was the coach that hired coach Kelly and now with ESPN and just received a promotion and will be one of the main two man broadcasting crew in the big 10. Anyway he said that coach Kelley did no wrong but the ducks will probably end up with probation. I see it as a flex of muscle, just as Auburn just found out ..... "We, the NCAA, will let you know when we are done looking into the 180k", as what was said to the Auburn coach at the SEC meeting a few days ago.

I hope that they never pay college kids to play, we don't need money to win the national championship, we need a playoff.

Although we do have Uncle Phil on our side :D

Just stirring, no pay for play.
