Thanks for the prayers. I had my surgery on the 19th and I am slowly recovering.
I missed my calving season, but it came of without a hitch. I had all heifers this year.
Just a reminder, please get your prostate checked. Mine was caught before it spread and it is totally out of my body now. Ladies, get your guy checked. Make an appointment for him tlk to his Dr. Just make sure he gets at least the PSA test.

At what age is it sensible to start checking?

You should start checking yourself at a young age, but if you are at risk you should be tested at 40 with a PSA ,and if you are normal risk (no history of it in your family and you are not in races at a higher risk) age 50 . When you go for your yearly check up it is something that should be discussed with your doctor .

I view this as the same as women checking for breast cancer, women should check themselves regularly , and then discuss it with their doctor when you should start having mammograms. I have a friend that lost her mom to breast cancer and her father to prostate cancer, she has been getting mammograms yearly since she was 25 ,her son will be having the PSA tests started when he is 30 because he is in the very high risk catagory .
