Temple Gradin

Yes, she came to a Va beef meeting at Weyer's Cave during one of those winter conferences several years ago. Very very good presentations... I have a lot of respect for this woman and what she did and has overcome. She has very practical inputs as the way she "sees" things from a cattle's perspective.
Don't miss it. Either of the talks. It will make you look at autism differently... her Aspergers is more functional than other forms, but it helps to understand some of the ways these people afflicted with this, see things in the world.

Our livestock association has been able to schedule Temple Gradin to come and speak on December 5th. Anyone heard her speak before.
At this time it looks like she will do 2 talks, one on cattle handling and one on Autism. 2 different groups and we hope for a big crowd for both.
You might want to introduce her as Temple Grandin unless we are thinking of different people..

I recall hearing her interviewed on NPR recently and her take on seeing things from the animal's perspective made a lot of sense. She said that even a slight change in the surface (and definitely seeing things through the bars) can make a cow hesitant to proceed into a chute. She sometimes gets down on her hands and knees to see things the way the animal does.

She designed the Creekstone facility; it's as humane as possible (given the circumstances).

I saw her movie, Temple Grandin. What an amazing life story and all because her aunt let her be who she was on her ranch in Arizona. I would drop what I was doing to go listen to her.

I recently saw her make a presentation at a cow-calf clinic in Brenham, TX. We were aware of what she has done for changing the mindset in cattle handling facilities. She is on a new mission to show the world the importance of ruminant animals in PROTECTING the environment by proper grazing to prevent wildfires and a side benefit of producing protein for human benefit.. Vey interesting.

I had hoped to attend that one, too, but my time was very constrained.

There was a guy in Australia that had a whole book of One Man Corral designs. I bought his plans long before most of us even heard of Temple Grandin and my pens are based on his designs and advice. I thought it strange that Temple was considered a pioneer in facility design when this feller was designing facilities at least 10 years before she came on the scene. In fact, I thought she copied and plagiarized his concepts. I guess she got a better audience in the US.
