What do you think of these 2. The cow is an old Buf. Crk. Chief Canyon daughter, she is the maternal grand dam of this bull. Don't have a photo of his dam but she is almost identicle to this girl. The bull was a top seller at our sale last spring. He is a grand son of Monu 4x-303.

Beautiful cow. How big is she? Judging by her cannon bone she doesn't look all that tall - which is good.

The bull needs more girth though. He looks great except for that.

Based upon these pics:
I like the cow.
I'd like to change some things on this bull. I'd like to see him a little thicker. I'd like to see him more level from his hooks to his pins. He appears a bit sway backed, I'd like to have a more level top line. I can't see his feet very well in these pics.

I realize I can be a bit picky on bulls. I believe your cows tell "where you are at today". Your bull or bulls "are an indication of where you are going". Based on these pics, I don't see this bull improving your progeny with this cow. JMO

I'm definitely more partial to the cow. She's beautiful. I agree with SF and purecountry on the bull...needs a more level topline and a deeper girth

I agree with the others. She is a beautiful cow with a good udder. Looks like a good milker.

The bull has a lot to be desired. He needs a stronger topline and more girth. Someone said he isn't thick enough but I can't tell from the pic. From the view it does look like he has a heavy rear quarter. Legs look good.

I like the cow.I don't like the bull though. He is to sway backed, and is to heavy in the front shoulders, and he looks pot bellied.Looks like he has a nice hind end though.

Come on guys - I've seen favorable comments on cattle that were absolute junk, and now you're being hard on this bull? He may not be a show winner, but he should be a very productive bull. Good northern cattle with some guts muscle to them. He could breed some of my cows any day!

I'm going to agree with you. I've seen blacks on here that were nothing but bad steers get more favorable comments. That is not a bad looking calf. I like the "pot bellied" look on young calves. To me, that means they will be deep bodied animals. The momma is phenomanal!

That's a nice looking avatar there BA.

BRG-I think you are on the wrong group here.

That is the best RA or Angus bull I've seen pictured on this sight in 2 years. Haven't seen a Hereford as good, either.

He's a nice calf, real nice.

I don't know what these people are drinking or smoking, looking at some of the crap they have made favorable comments on in the past, to nitpick this bull. He puts a lot of things together real nice, with just a few MINOR flaws that might limit his use in registered herds. I've seen people here recommend bulls that weren't half this bulls quality.

Top not level? So what???
A little slope to hip? So what?
Not enough girth? He's young, if he has it now, he'll be a pud when he ages.

He might be a bit straight on the pasterns, and shallow heeled, but those are the only more serious faults I can see. In some country, maybe they would like to see a bigger foot on him.

They are good cattle people ----WISE UP.

Seems that you need to get new spectacles.

Maybe you aren't to particular about what it takes to make a good bull

Again it seems that you need to get new spectacles. Maybe you could then see the pics better.

We are critiquing the bull. Not the people that own him. Maybe you don't read to good either.

No, LA, I know exactly what it takes to be a good bull.

And it ain't this nit-picking BS you are co-signing. He's got enough of the basics.

FYI, LA, the "people" was folks reading the site, not BRG. I don't confuse good cattle for good people, though that does seem a common thing to do here on this site.

I could be wrong...so please pardon me if I am. But I thought a level top was an important trait to have in calving?

I think you are right Jaydill. Also a nice place for meat to be stacked. But the mountain kid thinks otherwise. Maybe
he thinks empty space sells for more than meat.
