We had a break in the rain, so I decided to go out and take some pictures. Didn't get any taken of our black angus, they all look like &^%$ because they haven't completely shed out yet.

I wish this bull had more depth

Another possible donor, she's had twin bull calves every year but one and they've always been the first ones to be sold.

12 year old cow with a heifer calf. This cow is one of our best producers, but her age is showing.

Just a cow who happened to be standing good

Your "55 cow" has an almost impeccable top line! It's as level as a dance floor! Your "S13 cow" may be showing her age, but she is definitely displaying her great 'genetics' through that heifer calf!

all pretty good looking toplines to me, what percentage tarentaise/angus?
The 1st picture is a 2 yr old purebred Tar Bull.
2nd is a 4 year old purebred Red Angus, she was actually my show heifer a few years back and won Overall Champion Female at the State Fair.
3rd is a 7 year old purebred Red Angus and the 4th picture is of her purebred Red Angus bull calf, who is now our heifer bull.
5th is a purebred Red Angus, who is also an old show heifer of mine. I wish her calf wouldn't have just finished sucking down her front quarter before I took the picture, she has a really nice udder.
6th picture is of a purebred Tar cow, and her calf is also a purebred.
The last is a purebred Tar cow also.

Jeanne-
We have only been flushing our Red Angus up to this point, we are working on building up that herd. We might flush the Tar cow that is in the picture with her heifer calf before she gets any older, but we've been debating on her because her daughters might give her a run for her money on producing better calves.

I forgot to say too that the 1st pic of the Tar bull is the son of the cow of the picture with her and her heifer.

Some nice looking cows. I admire how well your selection process has brought your Tarentaise and Red Angus closer together in phenotype. Red Angus cows with length, hip and udders better than many from their breed, and Tarentaise with better depth than many from that breed. Keep up the good work!

Geez, I envy your grass. We are getting off to a very slow start here. Clover out the wazoo but the grass just isn't growing yet.

Thanks Doc, it's probably the showman in me, but I have a big pet peeve about thick, straight toplines.

Very well put - I agree.

Thank you, we cull and select very hard for good feet and udders in all 3 breeds we have. We've built the Tars up to what they are now (from considerably less than good quality) over a good portion of my lifetime, but there's still some room for improvement in the muscling area. Our Red Angus herd has only been around for approximately 8 or so years, and we lucked out that we were able to buy good females from several reputable breeders to get a good start on them. The Red Angus cows are my "baby" since I was the one who got us started with them when I wanted something a little different to show, and I'm lucky enough to have a dad who will listen to a youngster. For the most part, I make the decision on all the culls and keeps on the Red Angus and also make the breeding decisions.

Our grass just started to take off here, we have had more than enough rain but the warmer temp days are few and far between to get the grass to grow. On an average year, the grass by now is usually brushing the bottom of their bellies.

Love the cattle! How are those Tarentaise behavior wise? They have this mean look about them with the black around the eyes.

Thank you. Out in the pasture, they are docile. We only have one or two who get a little nasty during calving, but they are fine after the calf is a few days old. The first cows we had would come across the pasture at you, but we got rid of that.

Nice cows. Ever tempted to steal some extra milk for the house from that last cow?
Ha, no, but she hasn't raised a calf worth getting excited about, so I'm thinking of putting an embryo in her. With all that milk, the ET calf should really take off. The last 2-3 years, she has really started to develop a bag like a dairy cow.

Here's a few more pictures I had a chance to take today

This is the natural heifer out of the donor (3rd pic down on original post)

These are ET heifers out of the same donor cow

This is another donor, she is awfully fat because she was held open last year for flushing

I finally got a chance to take a few more pictures, it's been hard to do with this dang heat.
First one is a 5/8 Tarentaise bred heifer. The second is the natural heifer out of the donor cow. 3 & 4 are ET heifers.
