We are raising calf for our family to eat! First tome! But have raised cattle for years .... The calf were planning on eating had a swollen left leg about a month ago! The whole leg was swollen but it has completely gone down now! My husband is skeptical about eating the calf now?!?!! We don't know first time?

I would say yes, if he looks normal. Moreso if it will still be a little while until he's processed. Our first was a steer with a broken foot. The last one was a heifer with a lame back leg.

We butchered a calf with a compound fracture in a rear leg 4 weeks after the break. He was getting around on the other legs just fine. We did not eat the leg that was broken.

Had all of the meat processed as ground beef and it's really good.

Thanks so much for your comments makes me feel better about it
We don't know why it got swollen? Any ideas? Abscess?
