Does anyone ever do this anymore? I do this all the time. I was sick this past weekend up until xmas. I used my grandparents remedy of drinking some whiskey thats been heated up " 2-3 " shots and went to spare room put on 2 heavy blankets on me and turned on a powerful space heater and stayed in bed and slept and sweated for 10 hours woke up next day and felt 80% better. I looked it up online and scientifically they say there is not benefit to doing that but I have been doing it for years and it helps me. The cold I had was no joke my whole body was sore and my eye balls were even sore coughed my head off and coughed so much pulled muscle in my back had no energy to walk 30 yds till i did this treatment.

Over the years I've done something similar several times. And like you it has worked everytime.

If it works for you, it works. Forget the science. When I am hot my nose runs. Clears my head. Eating Chilli also clears my head. Whiskey has that affect too at times. It all makes sense to me. Just don't dehydrate yourself. Sweat and whiskey both take away the water your body needs to heal.

I do the same thing, except for the blankets, and the space heater, and warming the whiskey, and limiting myself to 2-3 shots. I just throw my hat on the bed post and drink till I see 2 hats. I haven't figured out a way to patent and sell this remedy. To many pirates out there.

Plums and sugar soaked in whiskey is an old remedy. Peaches too. Lemon honey and whiskey or just straight whiskey.

Joe I think you just hit on it. You can mix anything with it as long as whiskey is the main ingredient.

I have a friend who has an authentic collection of home remedies made with shine. Its quite the collection and some of them are quite good tasting too.

ive even mixed in ginger root with my remody one time ... it taste horrible but works

This is what used to be known as Jake's Tonic and was used a lot by people who didn't believe in drinking alcohol but basically that's all it was only masked by the ginger and sold as a cure all. When prohibition came, the pharmacutical companies who marketed this to the public were so upset that they were going to lose such a money maker the federal government allowed them to continue sales and production as long as they used wood alcohol instead. This of course is poison and led to what was known as Jake's Leg in the medical community. Jake's leg was the paralysis of the lower body beginning with a limp but leading to the eventual paralysis of the lower body. This was of know great concern to anyone in the government or the pharmacutical companies because this was just a convenient thing to blame on home distillers which added to the myth that home distilled whiskey was unsafe. Jake's Tonic is responsible for the paralyisis of over 20,000 ciitzens and blinding even more. In time, the term Jake's Leg morphed into Jack Leg to further disgrace the people who believed the propaganda and had faith in DotGov.

As a kid Dad would give us lemon, honey, butter, and whiskey for a cough or sore throat. I don't know that the lemon, honey, or butter worked but a shot or two of whiskey will sure knock a kid out. So I don't know that it cured us but the parents got some rest anyway.

Folks need to remember that alcohol boils at a much lower temp than water. Lose the alcohol if you bring it to a boil.
Praise be to that wise soul who figured on how to recapture them spirits.
