Took a little day trip last Wednesday but regret that I only stopped twice to take some pics, it was hot a H outside the truck....spose I could have set the camera on 'landscape' too

Very nice pics Alison, nice to see summer weather even if it is on the other side of the egg.

in the pic with the highway are you standing behind the truck or do ya'll drive on the wrong side over there.

I think the U.S., Canada and Mexico are the only countries that drive on the correct side of the road! The rest of the world is wrong  .

Mexico they drive on "every" side of the road. It's a nationwide game of chicken.

We stopped at a road stall on our way home and bought cling peaches, cherry jam, cherry liqueur, a selection of delicious dried fruits, whole cherries in liquor. Was tempted to have a couple of sips of the cherry liqueur but home was still very far away.

You could pass those picture off as the western Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle and nobody would know
Really similar type country

You win the photo contest this January. Is that corn (maize) in the last pic?
Yes it's corn. We also came across lands of sunflower, that was a sight with all those sandstone mountains in the background. The area has obviously had some good rain.

It may look like some of the areas over there but I bet it does not get nearly as cold ;-)

No Deepsouth, contrary to what some believe the bigger wild animals don't wander all around SA, they are fenced in in game parks/reserves/farms. :D

Beautiful country Ali. And yes it does get very cold in USA Corn Country in the winter time.

Thanks folks :D

Alison, awesome pictures, and what beautiful countryside! Boy I sure am missing the warmth of summer! Quick question...how close is the language in SA to that of Dutch? I speak a little Dutch as I lived there for a time...and was curious. Thanks for the pics!

Tim
Afrikaans stems from Dutch and has evolved somewhat over time, still very similar though so you would be able to understand us :D . Actually English is my first language, my great grandparents arrived here in the late 1800's and were of Norwegian/Scottish decent and not part of the Dutch settlers.

I grew up watching Tarzan movies and I was almost 20 years old before I realized Africa was not all tropical jungle with natives , headhunters ,elephants, monkies and lions all over the place , that is some beautiful country you live in.
