Coastal is probable one of the most popular. Along with jiggs, tifton, ect.. Those are just pricey and risky to get established, but once they do are great and will be worth it,,, if you get them established.
I have been impressed with the Klein grass also. Produced lots of grass and the cattle are still eating on it and doing good late in the year like now. Also the deer and birds stay all over it. It can be broadcast out wich makes it a little easier to get going. After that I think you just let it seed out and it keeps replanting and getting thicker.
Note some of the effects with horses and such though.
I will be trying the WW B Dahl Bluestem soon also. Have my land cultivated now to plant in Spring. I have been working at a place that has had it planted for a couple years now.
It is real hardy as far as you can spread the seed in March and not get rain until July and still be ok. That is very appealing to produce what it does and not be near as risky to get established as the bermudas.
I have also seen cattle walk right past coastal and go to it. The cattle do very well on it also.
It is suppose to also be good for wildlife, fire ant resistant so its good for quail and other birds.
Those three I personally have had experience with that do well in our area. They are all covered in the articles above.
WW B Dahl looks to be good. Being cheaper, less of a risk, easier to get going, and producing like it does might be a good place to start.
