Just when I thought the weather would finally stay warm, now we get a cold front, followed by another this weekend. We have had beautiful weather for the most part for a while now, the grass has shot up a lot in the last month. With the amount of rain we have had lately and the warm weather, right now we have more grass than the cattle can eat. Its been in the upper 70s - 80s for the last few weeks, now Saturday it will be in the 30s at night and Sunday night it is expected to drop near or below freezing again. We just cant have a regular weather pattern.

Now for a stupid question. Will a freezing temperature harm the the hay any since it has grown so much? It has grown so much, I would think it is already close to first cutting for the year.

Sounds funny to hear about temperatures in the 70's & 80's... We haven't been into the 60's yet! But I suppose it all relative since I'll bet some of our friends north of us haven't even seen the 50's yet... Our hay is barely poking its head above the ground looking for its shadow.
In answer to your question. I would bet that its growth will just slow down a bit...

I was out looking for my mower this morning, found it just in time. .Texas burmuda grass almost had it strangled, spotted bur clover was growing over the tires, and ragweed ooooh, ragweed was growing thro the deck.... I had mowed last week....Wish the grass in your pasture grew like it does in my yard!! Gonna have to mow twice a week !!

Green Grass? It was 3 degrees here this morning, high of 22 today.

Tonight they say a record below zero temp. Where's the global warming people?

The weather is as the weather does.

Might surprise you how consistent it is.

Kind of unwise to let it cause you anxiety. Harness it's predictability and guard against it's fickle nature.

I think I just made that up.

its supposed to be 43 tonight. i had on shorts yesterday and my warmsuit today.

it was in the 80s with humidity like no other and so i got really used to that and now its down in the low 40s with a wind and down to the 20s at nite. im freezing my freaking butt off. every thing was all bloomed out and trees have buds and alfalfa is looking good. now a freeze. there that all goes down the drain. orchards are gonna lose alot of money they say. thank god no snow. (knock on wood.) well if you didnt notice the hedge trees hadnt bud out yet. they never bud until the last cold spell is over. if they havent budded that means there is still gonna be cold weather yet.

I cant remember us ever getting a freeze in April. It just doesnt happen down here in Texas. The wildflowers have been popping up everywhere the last couple weeks, bluebonnets everywhere, and in 2 days they probably will all be gone.

On the plus side, all those dang junebugs are gone now that it cooled off. Sounded like hail driving at night with those things splattering everywhere. Couldnt open the door to the house without them getting inside.

By the way, I HATE THE COLD!
