stunted calf??

How can I tell if my 5 month old bull calf is stunted? I'm new at raisinga bottle fed calf.

:welcome: What breed is the calf, or if you're not sure, what does it look? Different breeds will grow at different rates. Are there any other cattle nearby to compare it with? Do you have any pictures? You should see a noticeable difference in size from month to month.

head will look too big, should weigh 3- 400lbs

He is a brangus bull calf. he was born on April 1st this year. He only comes up to about 2 inches below my hip bone and I'm 5 foot even. He was only 44 pounds when he was born.

Sounds like he may have been out of a heifer. If that is the case you are fighting mother natures way of protecting the heifer by having a small calf that grows slow. You might want to sell it and start over.

What is your end goal for him? If you are going to steer him, shouldn't matter too much.

I've been bottle feeding him and I'm starting the weaning process now.the mother cow has had calves before, which had surprised us that she cleaned up and left him for dead. That's how I came to raise him. I've been to heck and back with him until June of this year. He has become my.my pet now.we will steer him because we don't want breed him if there was a genetic reason behind this problem. Thanks to you for replying I feel better now.

do you have oaks, could be an acorn calf, they will never do good

No we have black jack trees and crab apple trees on our property.
