Stubborn calf

Ok, this is our first go with show cattle. My sons heifer will lead anywhere as long as someone walks behind her, doesn’t even have to be close behind her, but if nobody is back there she most likely won’t go unless it’s back in the direction of her run. Any tricks/tips because he puts in the work walking her every evening but she is too stubborn and smart for her own good.

Just keep doing what you are doing with someone behind. She will get over it.

Don’t keep working her in the same spot; change the scenery every few days . Keep working her and she will learn .

Walk her to FEED. Don't let her eat until she lets you lead her to it. Each day, put feed further away. Stubborn is much better than a run-away.

Dont walk her straight. Lead a few steps left, a few steps right. Dont get into a power struggle, just a light as you can get away with steady pull on the halter. she gives you a couple of steps, slack on the halter. Repeat. Good luck. Each one is going to be different.
