What is the best treatment for Strep uberis? We have had troule with treatment and provention? Thanks all,

Strep Uberis...

Off the labels; intramammary treatments that are labeled for S. uberis:

Pirsue (pirlimycin hydrochloride); "Pirlimycin has demonstrated in vitro and clinical activity against... Streptococcus uberis."

Polyflex -possibly- (ampicillin) ; "In vitro studies have demonstrated sensitivity of the following organisms to ampicillin: gram-positive bacteria - alpha- and beta-hemolytic streptococci..."

Spectramast -possibly- (ceftiofur hydrochloride); not specifically labeled for strep, but does appear to be effective against certain strains per lab results

That's all. ToDAY (cephipirin) is not labeled for strep, and neither are most (any?) of the penicillin-type IMM treatments like Amoximast or Dariclox or Quartermaster (dry cows only).

Dang, Milkmaid! Have you considered opening a cattle pharmacy? Sorry to get off-track, but I just had to say that!

:lol2: :lol2: You're not the first person to ask me if I'm thinking of going that route in life. LOL. Not sure yet, but I do know I really DO like learning about these livestock drugs. :)

:lol2: :lol2: they are interesting!

Have you tried Pirsue IMM in conjuction with Polyflex IM? I've seen that work wonders on subclinical cases. (Dropped one cow's SCC from over one million to around 586,000). As far as prevention, strep uberis is spread through the environment. Avoid overcrowding, follow proper prepping procedures, etc.

Good luck!
