Is it a good idea to take a calf away from mom at any particular time or do you just lit them stop when they are ready?

I take mine away at 6 P.M.

I pull mine at 7 months, or when the calf starts pulling the cow down to much, which ever comes first. I like to give the cow plenty of time to recoupe befor she has her next calf.

I change it to 6 A.M. every few days just to break up the monotony. :P

My calve heifer is 8 month old and still nursing, so I was just wondering those of you that replied a striate answer thank you. Sorry if the question are doom to some, but maybe you should not be in the beginners Q&A Board?

Sarria,
I would agree... wean her. At 8 months old you stand the risk or her getting bred, as well as her pulling the momma cow down too much. I usually wean ours at around 6-7 mths old.

Common Practice Is To Wean Them Off At 6 Months Give Or Take Depending On Calf If Its A Small Small Calf Maybe Give It A Little Longer + Some Grain

Ok I separated them so how long before you can have them back together again? :?:
tobe safe i wouldnt let them back togather for at lest 3 months.

we do not think anyone is dumb... take that calf and lock him or her up... make your pen high, because they do become crazy during this weaning period. in a couple of days you will see that the calves have calmed. Do not put them with the cows until they are dry or a good month. Wish you the best...the weaning periods are the worst.. donna
