Have a cow that looks like she is going to have a calf soon. Today I noticed a small area of her stomach seems to be protruding straight down. The protrusion is round, and is just infront of her udders. Is this the calf?, or something else? Never seen this before on any of my other cows before calfing. Thanks

Most likely its an edema, it will go away after a few weeks, usually seen in heavy milking young cows. Nothing to worry about.

I agree with Knersie with odema. Had one of our Jersey heifers get such a a bad case that it went from her udder halfway up her sides (both) & up into her brisket. We started milking her several weeks before she was due & she was so chapped between her udder & legs that we were piling cream on twice daily. Have been told that it has something to do with too much salt in the diet.
