Just heard in the news tonight that Sumter County Livestock suspended operations last week after their sale. Built in the early 1940's had served as a tremendous asset to the cattle industry in Sumter County and the entire Southwest and Central GA area as well as East Alabama and North Florida.
Cattle farmers are very upset as they will have to travel to Hawkinsville, which is probably the closest one now. Maybe some will go to Turner County Stockyard in Ashburn.
Apparently this came as a shock to cattlemen in the area.

Continues to fall right in line with CBs crystal ball.
Sadness. Hate to see it happening.

Sumter County Stockyard according to the news had been struggling for a while to break even. We may see some more close as numbers and sales are getting less every week. Cattle farmers in my part of Middle GA have struggled all summer with drought, little hay made and now having to deal with army worms. Plus lower prices every time we sell. Not many happy farmers here.

I still have two within a 15 minute drive, and probably 10 within an hour, but there aren't as many as there used to be. Sealy and Hockley are a couple that come to mind.

Rafter S, don't forget that Huntsville closed a couple of years ago. You are right in that you have a number of sales within an hour and a half drive:
Brenham 25
Bryan 30
Buffalo 82
Caldwell 49
Calvert 55
Columbus 66
Crockett 84
Flatonia 86
Giddings 57
4 County 42
Lexington 75
Schulenburg 80
