I have a neighbor that is allowing me access to 25 acres of mixed grass meadow, but I can't utilize it until July. He wants his grand kids to be able to fish in his pond in April, May, & June.

Should I fertilize this meadow in late May to get the biggest kick to my summer grasses? Is there any nutritional value in fescue in July?

Doesn't want to pond muddied up by the cows. Fescue in July???

By July it's probably the worst it will be all year. The endophyte is sky high, mostly stem and very little leaf left. Make sure that you have a fescue type mineral out for the cows and better start it a couple of weeks early. BTW, that wouldn;t be stockpiled, that would be just overgrown. How lng will you be able to graze it? If you can graze it again in the winter, I'ld clip it just above the grass blades before I turned the cows in, graze it short and pull them off in mid september, give it some nitorgen then and then hold the cows off till winter.

I have quite a bit of fescue on my place and it will choke out summer grasses if it gets too thick. Is cutting the pasture for hay in May or June an option? Then put your cows in during July.
