Still Adding Condition

Preface: I am feeding the Vitafirm Concept-Aid Mineral in the feeders. I put out some feed to keep them coming home so I can AI when I get a heat.
I have 25 total head on about 20 acres of pasture. I have not touched my other 30 acre pasture for 2 months. I am trying to get them to eat down the 25 acres they are on. But they are still putting on condition. A couple of these cows are beginning to look like the big over-weight donor cows you see where they do flushing:

TT: This is the cow I was going to sell because she is shy. I decided to keep her. Due with an AI calf out of Top Hand in August.

Dad always said fat was a pretty color on a cow and I couldn't agree more. It sounds like you calve late summer and you want those cows able to milk hard and breed back. To my eye it looks like your doing it about right. Keep pushing them at least 30 days past conception. Mel

Ahaha! Funny you should say that Nesi. I was just going to tell Ron to be careful, or they will get as fat as mine! :lol:
Mine are getting even worse this year because the pastures have recovered from leasing to the sheep people. :shock: I need more cattle! Anybody want to give me a loan? :lol:

TT: Yes. But she is not like the others. She must carry a gene for shyness. She looks great and I am able to work her. Ok for now but eventually I will probably cull her.

I had an in-law telling me about Vitaferm Concept Aid. Do they eat a lot of it. Does it have to go in a bulk feeder? I have some late calving recips that will be on short pasture and am wondering if this stuff would be a good choice to either get them to move ahead or just gain good for slaughter. I have old hay I can give them if the pasture gets too short.

TB looked at my previous loose mineral. Then when my vet was out he looked at it. Both thought it was very inadequate. I switched to vitafirm which is chelated. The compounds the minerals come in are also better in addition to the chelation. Yes, it is amazing how much more they are eating. I could calculate how many ounces per day are being consumed but I have not. I put the loose mineral out in an open feeder so it is easy to get.

The cows are adding condition but may be a combination of factors. I cannot say they are moving ahead in their reproductive cycle . In fact, I am still waiting to catch my first calf heifers coming back in. I AI on observed estrus and this spring has been frustrating to the nth degree.
