I've never used them before.
What do people recommend? I know where to get estrotect patches, kamars or there's these things: https://webshop.lic.co.nz/cws001/catalo ... cale=en_NZ

Trying to pick out cows that are not showing visible signs of heat when observed twice daily, or getting their tailpaint rubbed.
The apparent conception rate is unrealistically high this year. I could go another six weeks AI, but I need to somehow catch them cycling.

They have worked well for me. Two weeks or so after we breed I put a new one on and watch for the next cycle. I have also used them with a cleanup bull.

Exactly what I'm going to do today. Estrotect are the ones I use.

These are what we've been using tha past 5 years or so. Really like them, cost about a buck a piece

X 2. I also have used these for several years. Sometimes I even put 2 of them on, one about 3 inches or so ahead of the other. I found that during fly season it helps me to rule out the tail rubbing them off better.

I like the estrotect patches, they stay on good. Put one on a cow last night that blood tested open, and a heifer and another cow have had one on for over four weeks (still silver). But we don't have any brush or bushes for them to get into.

You can see the hot pink color from quit a distance. And like Dun said there only a buck apiece.

You can get them in any color, would be hard to see hot pink on hot pink cows. gs
I use green on the red cows and hot pink on the black ones.

Yeah, the brush is a problem with the tailpaint too but we don't have any on this farm.
They're considerably more than a buck apiece here. Going to get red, I reckon. The tailpaint is blue and most of the cows are black or fawn, I figured red would show up best... didn't know you could get hot pink

I'm planning on using them on the cows that have cycled within the last four weeks, the one that hasn't cycled and any I've mated that weren't showing good heat behaviour at the time. Doing the whole herd would be a bit more expensive and time consuming.
Last three weeks I've mated about what I'd normally expect to see on heat in the coming three weeks; at the apparent pregnancy rate 95% of them should be in calf right now (end of wk 9). Nope, I don't believe it.

Wouldn't that be great if you had 95% bred!

I personally like the hot pink detectors for my black cattle. It gives the city folks that are driving by something to talk about! ;-)

Tried one couldn't get it to stick.
I'd hoped since it's late spring and they're all shedded out that wiping the coat clean would be enough... guess I'm going to have to get a brush to do it.

At least I've got one to AI this morning, showing proper behaviour yesterday evening.
It's been a few days since any have been on.

I don't even brush mine to put them on. They are still there after 2 mos........Did you buy the Estrotect brand? Some cheaper ones don't stick well. I have found that fly rub will cause you big problems!

The only ones I've had getting to stay on were on curly haired Herefords.

Yeah, it's got the same instructions as in Dun's link and came with a sticky cloth. Cow looked clean but even after wiping, the patch just acted like one of them lint rollers. I'll try warming them in a cooler like they suggest - I'm not sure I'm human enough for the warming next to the skin lark.

Yeah, I stick them under my bra. If I don't have a bra on that day, they don't stick so good. :cowboy:

I don't. I use the truck's defroster.

You're missing out on all the useful things a bra can do for you...
