"Sterlizing" cull Ewes?

OK, small update on my sheep quest. I found a wonderful local breeder who breeds dorper and dorper/ Kahtadin crosses. VERY VERY nice stock. she just lambed..but all are spoken for..so Ill be waiting for next lambing. She does however have a ewe who is not a good mother..Im considering getting her to work Kate on..I wouldnt want to breed her..she'd be like a wether, but a ewe..my question is, is there a way to "sterilize" ewes, where they can be in with a ram and not get pregnant? (without doing the whole spay thing) as I think Ill end up getting a ram in the future, to breed to the ewes.
