anyone have any tips for keeping cattle from walking across a cattle guard...ours is way to shallow and there is always one or two cows that are to clever to fool......was thinking of painting the bottom black????

Painting the bottom black may help, but there will always be a couple that figure it out and usually others will learn from them

Once some of my gals , especially the younger ones have figured it out the only way I have found to stop it ,was to dig it out deeper . One of the cattle guards fills in all of the time , we have to lift it up and take the backhoe to it every few years .

Every now and then I see a cow kind of tip toe across
A cattle guard once they figured that out the best thing
To do is loadem up and shippem

try painting every other rail bright yellow or orange. Worked on a very smart bull once.

tie up a mean rottweiler by the cattleguard

it takes forever for our highways dept. to clean ours out, so usually we take a high pressure fire hose and wash them out... need to have one end open for that to work though
