So you guys were right...my steer didn't place at his last show. It's ok though, I was just in this for the experience rather than the money. I thought I would share some pictures from the day of the show.

Sorry it's a lot of pictures. I did place with my goat, we got 11th out of 19, and I got $650 for him at the auction. We get to keep the animals after the auction (most of the kids go to the major shows after this one), they basically just give us money at the auction to support us for dedicating our time to the animals instead of drugs & crime & whatnot. Thanks for all the advice in my other post![/list]

Congrats on your placing with your goat and still congrats with your steer. It's commendable to break and show your own calf, no matter how well he places. Hopefully, you've learned some things this year that can help you perform better next year.

The only real money in showing cattle is what you spend. The experience however, is priceless. Glad you had fun.

You did good! You halter broke and worked your steer, and got the experience.. that's what matters. Generally you don't start at the "top" (well, unless your parents have unlimited $$) so it's a natural progression from where your at to something better, if you enjoy doing it!

Having fun is the most important part. If I never place higher than last, I have a blast going!

Good work on your goat.

The first picture of your steer, where you have him set up properly, shows that he is actually a very good looking steer. He just lacks finishing. Which is a feeding issue. You need to talk to others that get their steers finished by the time of the show, and learn how they feed.
He really looked good, and you do to! Congratulations, a beef project is one of the hardest and most costly project for a junior.

The effort is what counts. Don't give up. I'm proud to see the youth of this country taking an active part in the cattle industry. You are to be commended. :cboy:

Thanks for posting those terrific pictures. Your pictures tell the real story; you bonded with your steer, and had a great learning experience. That's really what it's all about. Congratulations!!!

WOW! $650 for a middle placing goat!!! Count your lucky stars you're not in my county. Out of 180 goats, 10 make the bonus auction. Grand usually pays about $300. Our grand steer only brings about $1000.

Thanks for all the support. I did have tons of fun at the show and throughout the whole steer raising experience. I do live in Guadelupe county...people were bidding a lot higher this year at the sale than they did last year, it was wierd. Even the lower placing animals usually got over $500! My steer left for his new home today, so I'll get to sleep in tomorrow for the first time in almost a year! I can't wait til we get calves for next year! I'm not showing but my sister is...should be interesting.

moomoo thats not a bad steer, just needed some depth to compete. glad you had fun.
