How long do T-posts usually last before rusting off is in a fairly wet area. I started to tear out section of fence yesterday and was planning on putting in Hi-tensil. I realized all 5 strands of barb wire in good shape but every post rusted off so just going to put in new posts. I'm not sure whether to put new t-posts in or wood posts.
I'm not sure how long fence has been in.
 
Unfortunately our point of reference would be back when they were probably made better. I know I have some that are 30 years old. The convenience of them is why I use them. If I could I would only use cedar. Too hard to poke all those holes in the ground.

Some on this place have been in better then 75 years. What I founf funny was that in the desert with it's high alkaline sand they would only last about 2-3 years before rusting off at the ground level. But if encased in concrete they would last indefinitly
 
Lots around here in the soggy river bottoms have been here 20 years+. The way the recent drought's been running, they may last another 20. I've seen the bottom spade rust off when I pulled a post out, but not the post itself.
 
The guy I get my bulls from says that they don't last 10 years on his place. But at high tide you can throw a ball into the Pacific ocean from the low corner of his pasture. His fatherin law, who lives in Eastern Washington, says I doesn't know how long they last because the first one they ever put in is still there working just fine.
How long they last depends on your climate and soil.
 
Depending on where you buy them they can last a long time 30 plus 'but I got some last year I wouldn't count on. I was knockin corners off the top with a post pounder thought it was me till about 5 of'm were like that. Only got 20 of'm they were on sale and I was in a hurry , now I take my time when lookin for "good buys" . :bang:
