And we're supposed to see 8 -12" of snow overnight.

Usually I enjoy your pics but those were just....depressing. If I woke up this morning and looked outside and saw what was in your pics, I think I would have rolled over and stayed in bed! The winters here are plenty long enough to get a person down in the dumps, I swear I don't know how you guys take it for the extra 2 months or so that you get of winter. You are tough up there!

I hear ya! We still have 2 feet of snow in the fields. No grass, dirt, mud, showing. but the low holes are full of water. Can tell buy the way the snow is, and the slush on the road to check cows.
Clouds look like something is coming, and in reality we just do not need it.

I'm all for a slow melt, but someone please remind the weather controller IT'S APRIL!!!

Randi, at least it's not a drought! Hang in there. When it turns it should turn quickly. Folks down in Texas would love some of that moisture. Is your calving done? Jim

Lots of water around here this spring, that's for sure. So far the creeks & rivers are mostly staying in their banks. The last year has been an unusual one for this area, but I kinda like all the moisture....

Here is what it looked like out there this morning...

Not quite as bad as it looked, but we didn't go through in the end.

What's easier, break trail for the cows and move them to a different pen, or dig the gate out so we can feed them?

Where are skis when you need them? The little guy at the back only weighs about 45 lbs, he'd could just disappear in one of these banks!

I think that this snow just might push the creek out of it's banks..............

A short tight calving season should be a good thing isn't it? 4 a day for 30 days though...wow. You must be ready for a nap!

Hang in there.

Jim

It has been an awesome calving season. No real problems (other than the weather of course). The vast majority of the herd calved out in about 35 days, should make for a nice group of calves come fall too! Our biggest day was 10 calves and from Mar 13-25 we averaged 6 per day. The only nights we got up to check were due to the weather, and there weren't too many of that. It was cool, but not so cool that the calves needed to be born/brought inside most nights.
