Spring has sprung

Sure as heck hasnt' sprung here, we are going to have a hard time breaking 30 for at least the next ten days. And more snow expected this weekend to add to our five inches we got sunday night.

The early budding plants like Indian Plum are starting to open up. It has been in the low 60's upper 50's for the last week or more. We have set a few record for high temperature days. But there was a little touch of frost this morning. It clouded up today so that will keep that frost away.

A saw a half dozen trees already budding out today. Mostly large trees. Didn't get close enough to see what kind they were. Probalby pi$$ elm.

Spring sprung a leak here. All the armth we ahd for a few days was replaced by record or near record cold.

Need another couple of months before spring in these parts. I was having a grapefruit for dessert tonight and it said "Product of USA" got me to thinking, When would it have been harvested? Do you have any citrus ripening close to this time in the south?

Son, we have had one heII of a ride over the past 20 days. I have never seen the roads as bad as they have been this winter. There have been more delays for wrecks this year than in all of the 5 winters I have been here. I see that the next week is not much improvement. I look with loving hope to see a sight like this!

The grapefruit in Florida are at their best in winter, usually around Dec. from what I've seen.

Grapefruit from Fla and Tx are available in fall, winter, and spring. I think the later in the harvest, the sweeter they get. The best ones I've had are the Ruby Reds from the Rio Grande Valley.

Yes the sticker says Paramount Citrus, Paramount Texas I googled it and looks very interesting that they can grow them and get the fruit up to me in northern Alberta still in good shape. Never having a fresh one off the tree so I don't know the difference in taste between what I get and right off the tree. Still sweet and good here most of the time.

A truck can be there in three days, tamarack. I use to haul fruit from the McAllen area to New York and it'd take 2-3 days. Don't know much about the controlled atmosphere storage methods used nowadays, but fruit fresh picked off the tree will dry out and lose juiciness the longer you keep it in the refrigerator. A week or so in the fridge won't make much noticeable difference.
