sprig & sudan

I had small pasture spigged earlier this month and the old farmer next door said I should drill sudan into the spriggs so I would be guaranteed some type of hay crop. I would think that the Sudan would throw to much shade on the emerging spriggs and effect their growth. Anybody tried this? All comments appreciated.
