i was getting hay from a fellow the other day and he had the fertilizer truck out there spreading fertilizer AND rye seed. does anybody else do this and with what results. he looks to have a pretty good stand each year.

Neighbor does this but runs a harrow over it after he is done.. Might disk it lightly instead... Doesn't put the fertilizer on it until it starts growing... Works very well for them, wish I had 160 acres or so of ground I could do it on, would really cut down on feeding come early spring...
Talked to one guy once who had it flown in over standing corn and beans... Sounded like a great idea as long as you didn't have a wet harvest.

I have tried spreading it in with the fertilize, but I just don't think that you can beat drilling it in no till with a grain drill. Our co-op has one to rent out and I think it is the only way to go, unless you are seeding fresh ground that has been disked.

Most everyone around here does it that way on cropland. Once spread, they disc it in.

I know he's got good rye up. It was not drilled. The grass was clipped short at the time it was spread.
