Since I read the thread on the famous mineral feeder invented by Dun, I was wondering if any of you had a sprayer that you made yourself. One that could fit in the back of the truck or gator that you could use to spot spray. I have some ideas of how I am going to do it but I thought I would get some of ya'lls opinions.

I need it to spot spray catus and fence lines, not really one to use for the pasture but if it could that would be a plus too.

I just figured that someone out there would have an idea.

I forgot to add that the two we have were bought. I doubt I could buy the components cheaper separately. Plan on a new pump ($60-$80) every 5 years or so depending on how much you use it.

yep, they are cheaper to buy rather than build. If your building a large one you can come out better doing it yourself.

That's what we have. Sits on the back of a 4-Wheeler and Dad rigged it with the boom extensions on either side for pastures or fields.

Amazing. I'b been using a roundup and an ortho for the last ten years and spray everything from herbivides to pesticides with them. I did have to replace a seal in one of the handles this last spring. If they aren;t cleaned out between usages a lot of the chemicals will cause deteriation of the internals.

Sure if'n it ain't no trouble. We have used the Round Up brand and all kinds of jap crap! The Roundup was our latest upset. Dad and I went to pasture the other night to Ravap heifers and the gol durn thing quit. Dad was screaming and hollerin' and so was I! I am tired of this JUNK nowdays. Can't buy anything worth a hoot it seems like. Don't matter if you spend $1.00 or $100.00 on a sprayer they are all junk!

My latest is a 25 gal. Fimco with a Flojet pump. It's gone 4 years of spraying mesquite and fencelines in 90+ temps and even patrolled a few firebreaks with nary a hitch. The other is probably 12 years old or more and will soon need it's third pump but it's been used by my father for some commercial spraying and has seen a lot of use.

Here's one anghere built. (you had to be there)

I bought a 12VDC pump off of ebay for $15 and plan to hook it up to a small tank when I find it and mount it on the back of the 4 wheeler for spot and fence lines. I think some of the tractor supply units are probably just as cheap unless you some of the stuff to begin with. Then again I just like to build stuff.

I like dun have used them for years. If you pump one up to to high of a pressure you will blow a seal if they don't have a relief. Not cleaning one is the biggest problem, Keep em clean and even a cheap one will work for years.

Try Northern Tool if you live in the Southeast.

Also, we have been using our three sprayers for over 5 years with no problems. I think the Sureflow diaphram pumps are the best, they are used by most of the better sprayer companies?

Northern tool also has a nice boom kit (about $100) to hook to the sprayer and fits nicely on the Kawasaki Mule. Probably could make it cheaper, but I don't have time to tinker.

If this is the lexan boom kit, I agree it is slick. I modified ours to slip into the tow recieveron the mule and have used it a lot. I also put **** off valves in the supply lines for each boom. Makes it a lot easier if you just want to spray one side or the other, or both if they're both turned on. We've had ours for about 6 years and have had no significant problems excpet the Y-valve. Seems like it breaks at least once a year. Replaced it with a metal one this year and it's getting corroded, but it hasn;t broke yet. For small spray jobs it is the cats meow. The only drawback is trying to calibrate the speed for the amount of solution and the small capacity. Seems like I spend more time mixing then I do spraying.

Yep it is the lexan one. Thank goodness it bends and returns to its original position, for I have forgotten to lift the two sides of the boom when I pull the mule onto the trailer. OH well, the age thing, I guess?

I have a boomless fimco that can cover 30 ft, only holds 25 gallons so don't last long in leafy spurge country but it does the job and ya can shut off the boom nozzles and spot spray. of course be careful with any sprayer on a 4-wheeler, adds more top weight and makes them harder to control.
