Any ideas on possible splinting a day old calf's rear leg. I suspect he was stepped on and may have a broke leg. The cow is one of my better cows and she is very protective of her calf, always has been. Found her and calf late today, did not get to check the calf long enough to know for sure, cause Momma ain't getting very far from the calf. Even for a bucket of feed.
Any suggestions on splinting, if that's what needs to be done.
Thanks

I actually have 2 calves that had broken legs this year. Time is of the essence, and I wasn't able to get them in immediately (while Mr TC was still in the hospital). Both calves have very protective mamas that kept them bedded down during the day but would always move them with the herd at night. Both calves healed. As in, I can't even tell now and plan on keeping one as a replacement.

You can use a piece of PVC split long wise and wrapped tightly. I left it on this calf about a month and the results turned out well. I changed the wrapping underneath it a couple times.
