It can rain 3 inches somewhere and flood the road to super walmart and the news will report it all day but let there be a drought going on somewhere and they will hardly mention it.

I guess a flooded road is better tv than some cattle farmer having to feed hay in the summer.
 
When I was working with children, I was amazed that none of them knew where food really comes from. Granted, I was in the city at the time, but parents either aren't taking the time to tell their kids or they themselves don't know. I guess I just took it for granted that everyone knows where and how food is grown since I grew up seeing everything first hand from birth to freezer. I guess if there were a real food crisis in this country, most of the people would be lost and starving out of ignorance.
 
30 years ago in San Diego, CA, we had some kids from a local school come out to the dairy to watch a milking. Even then none of the kids had any idea that milk actaully came from a cow. When the first cow crapped in the barn while being milked the kids wanted to leave and said the'ld never drink milk again.
I can only imagine what kids today think

I read where actress Darryl Hannah said that she was a vegetarian because of the cruel treatment animals receive on farms. I wish she could see my cows right now. Other than swatting at a few flies, all they have to do is eat, lay in the shade, and wade in the branch. That is such a cruel way to spend the day! ;-) I wish we would deploy troops in Hollywood and take it back. I don't believe REAL Americans live and work there anymore.

when one of our friends found out we raise cattle he wanted to know what for, I said to sell, then he asked what they do with them. I said, make steaks, hamburger, leather and all sorts of other things. He said, you mean steaks are made out of cows?!? I almost died laughing!
 
I think it would work better if we could just wall Hollywood off. That way we wouldn't have to pay attention to them and if that happened, they would go away and lead a normal life. There is very little actual news on the air, 50% or more is someone gushing over the latest actor/actress and their larger than life ego.

I wonder if Darryal Hannah knows the so called eco farmers regularily treat their crops with Dihydrogen Monoxide to make them grow.
 
the kids at the local school come down twice a year and watch us butcher a hog or a steer...some of them like to get involved...they understand where their food comes from and what has to happen for them to get it

Our news is more rural-friendly, I guess. We've been getting regular reports on lack of rainfall and how it affects crops and cattle. Another concern for the towns around here is their water supply. They get their water from local lakes and they've been down for several years now. I even saw a story on the national news about a rancher in central TX who's going to have to sell out if he doesn't get some rain.

99.9% don't know what a womans breasts are for.
99.99% don't utilize them.
And I hear they can go to jail if they do, in some places.
 
I stick baby chicks in between mine till I can get them in a pen...

Hey! It is nice and warm in there. Plus, I can get my other chores done until I get back to the house. Makes an interesting picture. :shock:
