Some photos from the past couple weeks. Won't post any specific info on pedigrees/sires or such unless someone asks. Won't lie, our pastures are pretty plush right now because we had a bunch of snow over the winter then a very wet spring of rain so cows are in very good condition right now as they have plenty to graze at the moment.

And here is one of her daughters as a 1st calf heifer this year

Thanks! Got them to post correctly after editing the post a bit. Not sure why the 2G bull calf is sideways though

Like all breeds there are some not so good udders out there. Its been my experience the last few years with building a Hereford based cowherd that udders for the most part are pretty good these days, even with increased milking ability udders are still neat and compact made.
Those cows pictured have some real nice udders that should stay in good shape for a long time.

Thanks for all the kind comments. We've worked really hard over the years to breed what we feel are some well-balanced females. We sold off 7 pairs to another Hereford breeder here in state right before breeding season and really had a lot of discussion trying to make the decisions on what to keep and what to sell as we already had culled down to a pretty tight group and went back and forth on what we were going to do. Been pretty fun watching this group we kept though. We really stress on calving ease to go with good phenotype and udders along with growth traits. Good chunk of those cows have some kind of Revolution 4R in their pedigrees and that bull I'd probably credit if you ever want to clean up udders he's a good one to use if you can get your hands on his semen which is getting pricey now that he's dead. You won't be disappointed in his daughters, they make great cows and have nice clean udders.

Also that first bull calf (2G) I got the cow wrong, his momma is actually that first calf heifer pictured after him and that makes the 1st cow his maternal grand dam.

Wanted to add some updates to this thread after we have weaned and sent steers of to the feedlot. Kept both the heifers for replacements and kept 3 bulls to develop over the winter.

The first heifer and the first 2 bulls are sired by KT Small Town Kid 5051. First year using him AI and really pleased with the results and will not hesitate to keep using him if we keep getting calves like this.

Love this heifer and she keeps looking better the more she matures. We haven't shown cattle in over 20 years but she is tempting me to halter break her for a possible comeback.

This heifer is 3 weeks younger than the heifer above and out of probably our best cow sired by our herd sire. Not as flashy looking of a heifer but should make a good cow.

This guy is a meat wagon and can't wait to see what his ultrasound looks at yearling. Just thick all the way through and he's out of a first calf heifer too.

Like the makeup of this guy too

Would like to see him a little more correct from his hooks to pins but he should add some pounds for someone that wants to use him in a commercial herd. He currently has a 3.19 WDA on 12/20 weighing 950lbs He probably will have nice ultrasound scan at yearling too, his full brother was the first bull we sold last year.

Current herd sire. Been using him cleanup the last 3 years and had a lot of success with AI so we have not had a lot of calves out him but plan to use him more naturally next year now that we have seen some results.

What makes the first heifer better than the second ?

Second looks better to me shape wise and markings ?

But I really know jack about Hereford, or other breeds for that matter.

I like both heifers and its probably hard to see it from the profile side that the 1st heifer has a lot bigger topline and overall muscling than the 2nd heifer. Second heifer actually weaned better but have a feeling 1st heifer will probably beat her out at yearling the way she has been growing since weaning.

Probably a good example how a single picture doesn't always tell the whole story I guess. Excited to see how both grow out as yearlings, 2nd heifer's dam already has 2 other daughters in our herd too so have no doubt about the maternal genetics behind her.
