No doubt M326 has some very good qualities. I hadn't seen the Ward calf until I looked him up after your post, Baldie Maker. The picture of him in the AI flyer looks good. He doesn't appear to have the leather that most sons do. From Knersie's input here and learning about its practical usefulness, I'm trying to learn to like a little more flap - and my Star Lake bull is putting more brisket and flap on his calves than I've been used to getting in my herd. I'm still struggling with liking that, but it also appears his calves are going to be easier fleshing and hold their condition well through the winter. The jury won't be in on him until after his first daughters calve next year.
It looks like the trend in the showring is to try to get them more and more choke fronted - and I think they are taking it to the extreme now. Some of these show heifers are starting to have front ends like dairy breeds and a lot of the masculinity has been bred out of the bull calves to where they don't start looking like bulls until they are yearlings.
Kevin Schultz has a M326 son selling in his Sandhill Farms sale that there's a lot of talk about. But he definitely has both faults that I am critical of in M326 progeny.
But, like M326, there's still a lot there to like after you criticize the faults.
For my own use, I'd prefer Brian's P606 son.
