Here's some photos of the older calves. In case you don't get the idea from the photos, the heifer calves are slightly out numbering the bull calves at the moment, like by 60/40.... It's nice to get a whole bunch of heifers to choose from for replacements, but I'm hoping the boys will catch up in the end :???:

Curly and her heifer calf, DD's 4H cow that she used as a baby calf right through to when Curly raised her second calf. Curly LOVES Alfalfa horse treats...

What you get when you cross a Blue Roan, SSxBA cow to a Char bull. This should be quite a nice heifer in the fall, but, thankfully it's Tan as we won't be inclined to keep her, mama put DH over the fence...We're not much on keeping those kind around.

A first calf heifer out of a first calf heifer. Looks like she should raise a pretty nice calf herself.

A pretty nice younger cow. This calf will likely make the replacement pen this fall.

Red Angus first calver that we bought last fall. Out of the 9 we bought, 8 have calved and 7 have heifer calves. I guess that's why we bought them, to raise some heifers for us.

They look pretty good! Curly's calf seems to have inherited the curls!

DD and DH.. what does that stand for? Da Daughter and Da Husband?

What sort if range grass is that they are on?

It is Crested Wheat and Alfalfa. Our grass hasn't really gotten growing yet. Usually about another month before we can think about turning cattle out on grass.

Luv this cow. Nice Red Angus cow, that has thrown 3 heifers in the last 3 years,

Great pictures Randi! Love all those cute little brockle face babies, and that RA cow looks good too. It appears she would rather not have a tag in her ears though ;-)

The group of older pairs. We rotate through a couple of smaller pens as they calve. Once one pen gets to about 40 pair, we start filling the second pen. Then when the youngest of the calves in the first pen hit 3-4 days old, and everyone is looking healthy, we turn that pen out into the main pasture. In another week or so, we will likely move this group of cattle away from the yard.

Randi you have some fine looking pairs. And you're a good photographer. I enjoy looking at the pics you post. Thanks for taking the time to share.

We now have almost all of our calves on the ground. About 15 left to go. Should all be Char x calves from now on. We've had a fairly good run. But lost one the other day, month old calf. Was feeling tough when we moved them, not sure why, but I think it may have been a respiratory bug. Gave her Resflor, but it was dead the next morning. Now in the process of getting mom to take on an orphan. Brought in another today, broken leg, and a nasty one. Got it splinted this afternoon, and the vet is coming tomorrow to cast it. Hopefully it heals, I was hoping to keep her as a replacement this fall...

Anyways, here are some photos of the latest arrivals...
The grass is starting to turn green. Enough that they really aren't too interested in hay.

This one is a trouble maker. 3 times we've had the group in the corral, and 3 times he's escaped. Good thing we got him tagged when he was new!

Our daughter has a few cows... This one's off of her 4H show cow, Curly, and the only one so far to have a bull calf. The other 3 had nice heifer calves, that are on the list of replacement candidates. I think we'll have to swap some of our sale heifers for them... or she's going to have to start paying some bills.... She's at 6 head and counting so far...

A future heifer bull...maybe... We really like his dam, and he's got genetics to be easy calving, so we will see how he turns out.
