Sold a Char Bull

Its sweet isn't it? That's a prime example of why I have been practicing inverse weaning and herd reduction. If we all continue to do the same then everyone can have a cell phone.

Selling a Char bull is always a good thing.
You fell through the shyt house floor and landed in honey on that one.
Better frame that salebarn stub.

Although some cattlemen are quitting completely, many are expanding. For every cattleman that is retiring, someone somewhere is going to be taking up the slack.

Drought can still be a factor. It is on the dry side here but there is thunderstorms rolling through this morning. Might not be hay yet but looks like there will be some grass. I do have a pipeline and have water regardless. Some do not have water and that is their limiting factor.

Age is a big factor in getting out. I would have to look for it again the average age of a cattleman in Texas was 60+.
Not a lot of younger folks want to put in the work or money it takes for cow's. There are a few but as a rule here there are way more getting out than in. The guy that has the local feed store here is worried.

I have neighbors interested in helping their grandson get started ranching. None of their kids who are my age are on the place, so ranching has skipped their generation.

Contemplating selling my place to them. Their place is adjoining to mine. Combined the two ranches make a good sized ranch in a single block and complement each other nicely.

I'd like to continue on my own for another 20 yrs or so but my health won't allow it.

I just turned 21 last weekend. I am blessed to be at 30 brood cows with 80 acres rented that doesn't have a cow on it. My granddad taught me everything I know. My dad doesn't give a rip about cows. He will help me or my granddad when we need it but that's as far as it goes. I'm addicted to it. Hope to be doing it 80 years from now, if the good lord doesn't come back. :cboy:

Sorry to hear that, John -- about your health! But maybe you can get some good people to carry on, and still keep a bit of a hand in it.
