Got my test results today. (Only took 10 days total mail time both ways.) Nitrogen is almost non-existant in my soil. Everything else is OK.

I need to do 2 things: weed control and fix the nitrogen. I searched prev posts and it was recommended to split into 2 or 3 applications. Can I mix the weed control and spray together? We are only talking about 6 acres to begin with.

How would planting clover or some other legume fix the nitrogen and how fast?

How does the lack of nitrogen affect the quality of the grass being grazed? Is it nutritious enough or so I need to supplement?

I don't have an applicators license (yet) but I have bought the book and hope to take the test by the end of the month.

Sounds like you got a good answer but I'd like to add that you might want to drop by the bank on your way to see about a loan for the fertilizer. Its ridiculus utterly ridiculus.

There are some herbicides that do not require a license. Pastureguard is one but a little pricey. The old Ally product or one of its generic forms (do not use on bahia). Check for compatability with the liquid fertilizer you are wanting to use.

Word of caution do not use Grazon P+D where you intend to plant clover. The picloram (P) has residual affect even into the fall for clover seedlings.

Clovers fix nitrogen for the warm season grass that follows them. They also provide some excellent forage for livestock to eat.

Generic form of ally is really cheap now, 8oz bottle does 80 acres for $85.00, smaller quantities may be a little higher. Need to catch the weeds early for best results. I added 6 oz remedy/acre to help get the tougher to kill weeds. Neither need a liscense to purchase. About $4.90/acre for chemicals.
