I feel like it's been decades since the last show back in September. So tell me how it's going and what your plans are.
Our first show is in 2 weeks and can't wait!!! :banana:
 
We've been busily getting ready for our first shows of the year, first one is 2.5 weeks away and then another one week later. I say busily because I'm relatively new at showing and didn't grow up raising cattle or in 4H or FFA or anything and have pretty much had to self teach myself most things about showing, as it seems that since most people are your "competitors" they don't really want to give away too much information. Anyway, about early April I slick sheared the 3 summer yearling heifers and one summer yearling bull that are going to these fairs. Their hair was that awful winter coat, and I figured that was the best way to go. Well, it has grown back real nice on the heifers, except their toplines are all caliky and won't lay forward like the rest of the hair. The bulls hair is still pretty short, but I noticed bulls won't grow hair like the heifers, and his topline is messed up too. This is gonna make it real hard to clip right if I can't get it right in time. So, I've been spending alot of time trying to fix this hair problem on the toplines. I feel like that's all I do!! I've been fogging a half and half mixture of conditioner and vinegar after they are washed and dried, brushing and blowing it in. Heard about this method on this forum somewhere- not sure if it's working yet...... :D Hopefully this problem rights itself in time for the fairs. Ahhhhh, That felt good to vent!!

Are you keeping misting fans on them? That cool water and a breeze will help grow the hair.
 
Took some pics yesterday, but having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to post them. Any hints?

Greatgerts: I do have fans I can put them under, and I will start doing that. I don't have any misters, but the fans have to be better than nothing. I'm thinking I'll just have to keep brushing, brushing, brushing till those funky cowlicks go away...

If you can rinse a couple of times a day, that will help too. Keep the fans on them. Rinsing and the fans creates the "illusion" per say that it is a cooler time of year and they will start to get hair built up. We show ours short haired, but needed to grow a little on a cow that had some issues, and that is what we did. She was fixed within a week.
 
Here are some of the calf I sold. He finished 3 rd over all in the FFA Black Division, the grey calf in the one picture finished behind him in class, judge was a stickler for soundness and structure (I think it is about time). We had 95 head at the fair this year, it was up from last year, I had expected it to be lower myself.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to start rinsing them everyday until we leave as well as try to get them in under the fans as many days as I can. Hopefully that will do the trick :P I will post picks soon.
 
My CB steer from invinsible has no hair and i was wondering if this would work to grow hair fast is this good enough i need hair on July 17 2012 and he is on a turbo fan and a none turbo in a dark room not a cooler do you think that will grow him hair that fast and i washed him brushed and brushed and blowed him off then put the fans on do you think he will grow hair???? :)
 
I hope the date you have down is in-correct or you missed your fair.
You will not be able to grow hair in that short of a period, but you will get the hair he has to look better, I would go for it just do not expect to see a big improvement. Work the hair, get it to go in the same direction and have a softer look, that is about all you can do.
It takes about 90 days of hard work to get hair on them.
