Has anyone seen any around their place yet? I am not overly surprised about the snakes but last year this time we were loaded with ticks and I haven't seen one on me or the dogs yet.

Sky, saw my first Tick crawling across my arm this past weekend... Hopefully with the long cold Winter that we had, they won't be near as bad as last year!!

Been seeing ticks off and on all "spring?". A 70 degree day and I get them, then it freezes and don;t see them for a while.

I don't mind the snakes but the ticks is what I hate those things can hide anywhere. I am hoping all this snow and ice we got took care of some of the population like Tn cattle said.

During the winter they just burrow into the ground and leaf litter. It used to be common around here to burn the woods every year to eliminate the ticks. Took many years for people to catch on that there were as many after burning as before.

lol but I bet yall had some pretty woods the next year. I treat my yard once a month for ticks and it seems to be working so far. There was a time when my kids would get on the ground and get up and have a dozen ticks all over them. My neighbor uses guineas for tick control.

Saw a couple of copperheads already and one cottonmouth, and even in Jan and Feb, the dogs would occasionally still have a few ticks when they went into the woods.

It's the mosquitos that are going to be terrible this spring and summer. Too much standing water.

Haven't seen a tick in years. Wife said she saw a dead rattlesnake draped over a barbed wire fence last year. Guess the owner kilt it.

The skeeters are live and well and seem to have multiplied their population x 4 its ridiculous

Years  I need to move there and be your neighbor

Plenty of ticks. They never totally away here. Do you think the deer keep them going through the winter? What I hate is when the seed ticks hatch.

im not sure what keeps them going i just know i hate them :)

I have only seen a couple of ticks here in my entire life. The only snakes are gardner snakes so it is no big deal to see them. Saw the first one of the year yesterday.

Glad you told me before I signed my closing papers :lol2:

What you need is a good crop of fire ants. They will just about eliminate ticks. We still have a few cattle and dog ticks, but nowhere near as many as we did when I was a boy.

And we also had some very small ticks back then. We called them "seed ticks", but I don't know what the proper name was for them. They were so small they were hard to see with the naked eye, and you wouldn't know you had any until you had dozens or hundreds on you. You'd have to get in the bath with rubbing alcohol (the best I can remember) added to the water to get rid of them. I haven't heard anything about them in probably close to 40 years.
