Do you ever smile when you watch your cattle? I was watching a small group today. I had just moved the bull from a paddock where I think everything is bred to a paddock where a couple are still open. One of the cows is a first time mother and she has a little black baldie calf that is 7 weeks old. When I put the bull in he goes around sniffing everything. He is about finished and the cow and heifers I want bred are already bored with him. So he is standing behind them and acting like he needs attention. Me and my dog Blue are watching from the utility vehicle. It is hot but a beautiful day. We are down in the holler where there are overhanging trees and it is nice. The little black baldie calf runs back to the bull. Pulls up short of him and stops. Slowly, now she walks closer to the big bull. Nose out, she smells his shoulder. He catches her in his vision and pionts his nose toward the little calf. Their noses touch and I cannot help but smile. A big smile and a little laugh comes from my throat. It was sweet to see the little calf and the big bull greet. He seems to know she is little and he is gentle with her. Blue and I look at each other and he tells me what a wonderful world it is. What a fine dog!!!
