Where I am at in Oregon there is a huge demand for small square bales of quality hay -- always is. I've seen good second or third cutting alfalfa going for more than $20 a bale at some feed stores with bales ranging from 80 to 125 pounds. Grass hay is $5 to $15 a bale depending on the type and where it came from. Bales usually weigh less. The horse people pretty much all want small bales, and so do most of the smaller hobby farmers who feed cattle, sheep or goats. it is easier to feed, stack and store, and there is less waste. I have no problem selling my extra grass hay. Bales are usually 55 to 75 pounds.
 
The amish horse deal here vary widely. We have 4 of there mares here at the farm being bred. Those are high end standard bred races horses want for nothing. Some community's pretty rough circumstances shake your head stuff.
 
Quality small square bales will always move well and for a good price.

The small squares allow for easier handling and storage for those not needing a large amount of hay.

If it wasn’t for the handling part I would bale all of our hay in small squares. We usually bale about 750 for the sheep and to feed cattle put up in the barn.
With small squares there is pretty much zero waste.
