I posted on the Dog/Cat thread but need help, so will ask here too. WHAT WORKS TO DEODER A DOG??????
Maggie Mae got it on the snout last night, I used vinegar, didn't help much. :help:

I took it point blank once. Most godaweful smell on earth. Gotta say I tried every remedy there was and discoverd RBB is right cause time did work.

My dog taught me that if they roll in something very very dead, you'll no longer notice the smell of skunk. You might try that..... :lol2: ;-)
 
When my dog got shot by a pole cat, I rememberd the old wives tale of "tomatoe juce". I looked through my pantry, but didn't have any. I did however, have tomatoe paste. So I slathered a can of tomatoe paste on her head. She no longer smelled like skunk..... she then smelled like an onion pizza! :cry2:
 
Thanks for the replies and pms! I tired a mix of mouthwash, peroxide and baking soda... Then I went to TSC and got a bottle of Natures Remedy. Followed the directions and gave her another final bath last night and either it has worked or I am used to the stink. She however, is shedding out handfulls of fur, all that stuff must have really done a number on her coat. Hope she doesn't end up bald..... Oh well it might make her cooler in this hot weather. :???:
 
She lives with me so the de-odering was a must. I really don't think she was getting after the skunk or she would have got it a whole bunch worse that what she did. She really likes the critters around here and she is friends with the barn cats/kittens. I think she mistook the stinky kitty for one of her friends.... :x Big mistake! Doing chores this morning heard her yelp and I think she got kicked or stepped on by one of the cows while they were eating their grain, she likes to supervise feeding and take a taste or two as well. She is fine but she sure is having a heck of a weekend.

I have an Aussie too that is out with me when I am out. She does her thing and I do mine, but she is always near by. I don't "watch her closely". Who wants a dog they have to babysit when they are working with cattle? CKC's dog will learn like the rest of them that the black and white one is not your friend, and watch your step around the cattle.
 
i used to have an aussie, man i miss her, the best dog i ever owned, been wanting anothe one real bad. a blue merle, anyone know where i might could find me a pup

Yup, Maggie has been with me since she was 6 weeks old and did chores with me zipped up in my vest for the first few weeks. (Got her in February 07) She likes the cattle and they like her, she licks their faces and they reciprocate. She has respect for them and understands her boundries with them. I don't think anything "bad" happened this morning but she was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I expect it was the yearling heifer as she has gotten aggressive with her grain and she was in the pen instead of on the other side of their gate where she usually interacts with them.
Maggie is fine, she has just not had the greatest weekend.
 
There is a commercial product out called "skunk-off" that sort of works. The best thing I have found is to keep them sprayed with "Febreeze" 2-3 times a day for about 3 days.
 
Always heard tomato juice works on skunk odor....probably easier to stick some vicks or :oops: mentholatum up your nose. Won't get rid of the odor but at least you won't be able to smell it.
 
We keep some stuff called, I believe, Natures Miracle skunk deodorizer.
They have a regular deodorizer and then a skunk deodorizer. The regular works but the skunk stuff works better.

Works pretty darn good.

Much better than tomatoe juice.

One bottle did three dogs the last time we had an encounter. Got them all to the point that they were bearable.

I get it at Pet Smart and keep a quart on hand.
 
Tomato juice usualy works good, this time of year we have taken some real ripe tomatoes out of the garden and mashed them up , they work too.

Yup, that is what I got at TSC. Worked well. And I got a spare bottle, just in case.... ;-)

I have used that as well. I was pleased with how it works, but noticed they still stink like skunk when they get wet for awhile.
