No bad problems here in Middle GA yet, but black flies are worrying people and livestock to death. Had never seen them until this spring. Sent some to UGA entomologists and they identified them as black flies and said they are a problem all over the state. They breed in running water and we had heavy rain all winter and spring.
The entomologist that called me almost three weeks ago told me they would be gone in two weeks, but another crop of them would be here in late summer or early fall. They swarm in your face and get in your hair, ears, and eyes. They are out all times of the day and still out at dusk.
I hope none of you are bothered with them. I believe they are worse than skeeters.
As soon as these leave, I am sure the skeeters will be here. No rest from pests.
 
We have thunderously huge ones around here, they come down the mountain every evening with a downwind, luckily for us we're too hot and dry for them to reside here permanantly, so it's just a couple weeks of them then they get cooked out.
 
Yellow fly, or deer fly, whatever you call these silent biting nasty flys. They are terrible this year. At least in the Adirondacks you knew they were there, buzzing all around you ready to inflict pain.
 
We don't have any mosquitos here yet. Have found ticks, lots of ticks. Have about a million or more brown stinkbugs.

I remember being in NH during sprintime and the blackflies were an incredibaly annoying little creature!

I saw a gallon of skeeter spray with guarantee but all it is is garlic juice you mix with water and spray.

You just think you have skeeter's come down here in this thicket and I will introduce you to some.
We have some down here can stand flat footed and breed a turkey.
Best thing we have found is thermal cell for sitting outside and bat boxes.
Your skeeter catcher is what we use for wasp traps just different bait.

please keep those down there I wish they made a therma cell that can protect your whole yard.
 
We had a good cold winter for our area, saw the underside of zero several times and got down to -12F. You would think that would kill off a few pests. It didn't seem to. We don't get blackflies here. We do get an assortment of skeeters. There are some that are great big and dark colored, and they can bite right through your shirt. They prefer the middle of your back, where you can't reach to swat them or scratch the itch. I hadn't seen those until we moved to the river bottoms. We don't get very many ticks, chickens on the loose all day is probably the reason. We have wasps and mud daubers out the wazoo. And too many horseflies. We have barn swallows, bats, toads, all kinds of bug eaters in residence but they just don't get enough of them.
