I started my fall vaccinations today. I do it in 2 steps.

First round is the Fetal Protection vaccines.
1. Bovi Shield Gold One Shot which is a MLV that covers - Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) Type 1 & 2, Parainfluenza 3 (PI3), and Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV). Plus Mannheimia haemolytica.

2. Spirovac VL5. Vibrio and the 5 Leptospira.

3. Pour with Eprinex.

The second round will be Covexin 8 and Autogenous Pinkeye.

I do 2 rounds so their immune system is not overwhelmed.

Anyway, I got one cow that is a big sissy. Got her in the chute, stuck he with a one inch 18 guage needle and you would swear I stabbed her with a sword. She lets out a very course groan that she drags out for the whole 5 seconds the needle is in. Then she repeats it for the second shot. Even pouring her seems to hurt. :lol:

I stopped using an Injectable parasiticide like Ivomec because that stuff must hurt. I had three cows that almost got to where I could not get them in the chute. Since I have switched to pour on Eprinex, no problem.

LA200 and 300 also causes some chute shyness

I stopped using an Injectable parasiticide like Ivomec because that stuff must hurt. I had three cows that almost got to where I could not get them in the chute. Since I have switched to pour on Eprinex, no problem.

LA200 and 300 also causes some chute shyness

this was just breeding hormones. The heifer took it without a flinch

My cows are not chute shy, if they won't go in they get a hotshot in the azz, then they get their shots in the neck. We give our shots at two different times and I feel it's better on the cow and vaccines.

I'm surprised that the cow I had with pneumonia actually likes me still.. 7x10cc shots of resflor, plus vit ADE, Dex, and banamine...

I remember a vet and six students were doing some johnes and preg testing on my cattle and giving them some shots. One cow came in and i had the needle so as they were busy with samples i gave her the shot myself. I have never seen a cow go nuts like that from a shot, nearly got out a seven foot high crush. I had to a.i. her a week later and was a little nervous but she was as quiet as a mouse and calved nine months later.

I don't even have a chute. My cows are all halter broke. I tie them to a post to give shots or to draw blood for preg testing. They don't like shots but they don't freak out. We treat them with cattle cubes so they still love us in the end. I won't keep one that I can't handle easy as I don't have heavy equipment. I do raise most of mine from bottle calves. But even the ones being raised on cows get handled and lead broke. When I sell them I get a bit more for them as they as easy to handle.

Mega could hold a grudge, she wouldn't want anything to do with me for a month after that weenie little shot!

That's getting a little to personal with your cows for us. My wife cries now when I take her favorites to the sale. Sometimes I'd like to have a heifer or cow halter broke for the school farm days we do. But those supposedly in know say don't do it. It's not natural and kids need to learn to respect an animals space.

Very wise. Safety First. I worry about that too when I have guests. I take risks but they are calculated. I will not allow small children to get close.

Subconjunctival injections with PenG and dex will also cause chute shyness. :frowns:

You have to educate people that some cows have been trained, and others are wild and mean.. Kinda like don't walk behind a horse.
I have some cows that just LOVE people.. True to her name, Kama (Goddess of love) in fact loves anyone who comes around.. She even put up with 3 and 5 year old girls petting her, jumping up and down and clapping.. kinda surprised even me.
